Fall Golden Hour Family Session at Brushy Creek Lake Park | Austin Family Photographer

Golden hour at Brushy Creek Lake Park in the fall is always a favorite, and this one graced us with some of the best light!

When I met up with Caroline, Price, and, we’ll call him little H, the sun was still a bit high, so we started under the oaks where the light filters through just right. It’s one of my go-to spots for easing into a session. We start with the more posed, smile for the camera shots (especially with a two-year-old who has much better things to do than stand still, the beginning of the session is generally our best time to do so!). Little H kept us moving, exploring around, coming back in for a quick hug, then off again.

Once the sun dipped a little lower, we headed out into the open field and got that warm, golden glow Brushy Creek is known for. This is what makes fall family photos in Austin so special: that soft light and space for kids to just be themselves. Little H was still on the move, and it turned into lots of running, laughing, and those in-between moments that end up being the favorites.

Capturing family sessions are some of my absolute favorite! There’s no pressure for kids to “behave” or look at the camera the whole time, and this session was exactly why – that freedom is what makes everything feel real. Caroline and Price leaned right into it, just following his lead, picking him up when he wanted, letting him run when he didn’t and that helped the photos be truly candid!

If you’re looking for a natural, relaxed family photo session in the Austin area, Brushy Creek Lake Park is such a beautiful option year round. It’s perfect for families with young kids who need room to explore while we capture genuine connection along the way.

It didn’t feel posed or rushed, just a really sweet evening with a family letting their kid be little and enjoying it right alongside him!

These are the kinds of sessions that make me love what I do.
